Griffith Rowland on 20 September 1778 in the parish of Llanddarog assaulted David John (otherwise David John David William) with a spade made of iron and wood (value 1/-) striking him with it on the head, neck, throat, breast, belly, sides and other parts beating, bruising and wounding him and giving him several mortal wounds and bruises of which he languished until 30 September and then died (WALES 4/745/2).  Death sentence passed on Thursday 28 August (WALES 14/5 ).

In C&iN he is described as: Guffo (Griffith) Rowley for the murder in 1776 of a tithe collector:  he had escaped to Bristol where he'd lived 7 years before being caught about same time as William Mani (sic) and his son hanged about 10 years later as accomplice in robbery and attempted murder of his aunt at Coedgain.
